Bad News on the Condo; Some Historic Houses

I'm very sorry to report that someone else has put in an offer on the condo I love so much, and the bank has responded with a counter offer. It's possible the potential buyers will walk away, but it's not terribly likely, so we have probably lost the place. :( I am so very sad.

But the search goes on. We saw five more houses on Sunday, all of which were interesting but none of which were great possibilities. A couple of them were new but not that great; the others were older and more interesting.

1. 1965

David loved the first one we visited - a beautifully decorated 1965 in a cul-de-sac with a big backyard - but its kitchen would have to be totally remodeled and the living area was pretty small. And someone has put an offer on that one too.

2. 1979

We also visited a 1979 house on stilts up in Forest Park, with a big wonderful deck looking towards the city with absolutely incredible forest views. It also had a really nice kitchen and living area with the view. It felt wonderfully Portland-y. But the parking was really tight and the house was quite small. It was seriously cool, though.

There are two small bedrooms/offices on the lower floor. This is the better of the two, with a forest view.

3. 1935

Another really interesting one was a 1935 historic fixer-upper, also next to Forest Park. It was beautiful - made entirely of brick, with an original, leaded bay window and neat interior. But it needs a whole lot of fixer-upping, and we're just not up for that right now. It's too bad, as it could really be an incredible place to live!

We are leaving for Bend in just a few minutes. It will be a fun little getaway (we're staying at the McMenamins Old St. Francis) and hopefully we'll get a better idea about whether we want to live in Central Oregon. The realtor is going to pick us up at 10am tomorrow morning for some house viewing.
