Christmas in Germany!

We are going to spend Christmas in Germany! Wahoo! We are very excited. We just booked a flight, hotel, and rental car for Cologne (Köln) from Dec. 24 to Dec. 29. David has vacation from work from Dec. 23 to Jan. 3 (unfortunately unpaid since he's with a temp agency).

Cologne is in western Germany and has one of the biggest and best Gothic cathedrals in the world and a great Roman museum. We also plan to take day driving trips to the nearby towns of Aachen (imperial captial of Charlemagne) and Trier (has the oldest Christian church in Germany, Roman ruins, and imperial baths of Constantine), maybe a castle, and maybe even Belgium or Luxembourg! The flexibility of a car will be a nice change.

We are going to fly EasyJet, one of those wonderful no-frills budget airlines. It's nice and cheap and the flight takes only 1 hr 20 mins. It goes direct from London Gatwick airport to Cologne airport. It could take as long as 2 hours by bus from Oxford to Gatwick, but we do what we gotta do.
