It's mighty windy here today - with gusts up to 100 mph. A section of the big security walls around the Oxford animal lab have blown over, a man was killed on a highway north of us when a big tree fell on his car, and a woman died when a brick wall blew over on her. There's crazy video on the news of people actually being blown over on the streets of London and people holding onto each other just to stand up. Lots of power outages, big traffic problems, flights canceled, and most trains are canceled or limited to 50mph.
Fortunately, David doesn't have to worry (and I don't have to worry) about rush hour and wind on his way home tonight - he's not coming home! He has actually been included in a big overnight meeting for work, all the way up in Leeds (not far from York).
He went straight to Leeds this morning on the train, which should take about 3 hours but actually took nearly 5 hours because of the weather. Yuck. But since he left early he was still on time for his 1:30 meeting. Tonight his coworkers have arranged for bowling and then dinner, so he should have a pretty good time! Tomorrow they'll all return to Slough for a half-day's regular work.
This is the first time we've spent a night apart since we've been married, and it's a little rough! But thanks to cell phones, I think we'll be okay. :)
Might finally get to the Fribourg report tomorrow...
