Sun in London

This weekend some blue sky finally made an appearance. Fortunately it worked out to be on the same day that Holly and I had planned to go into London. We took the bus in and hopped off at an earlier stop then normal as we were eager to start enjoying some fresh air. While we ended up having to walk further then planned, we really had a good time. All of the people and traffic was a little crazy but it was worth it for the whole experience.



The first highlight was popping into a new favorite sandwich shop only to find that it was attached to Selfridges department store. It is a huge and amazing place full of every consumer good you could imagine including an internal Muji store (Holly's favorite).




From there we proceeded to walk down a very busy Oxford Street on our way to visit the Temple Church (for the second time) and St. Pauls Cathedral.

Once we got to the Cathedral we were pleased to find it open to the public. It did make me grumble a bit to find that they charge £9 each to go inside and pictures are not allowed. It may be a working church, but they have a pretty good tourist racket going too. Of course we took the picture ban as a "guideline" and the fee was worth it for the view, both inside and outside at the top of the dome. The stairs to the top are grueling, don't let my smile fool you.




We finished up the day by walking across the Millenium Bridge and walking the bank of the Thames to London Bridge. There were some fun sites along the way such as the Globe Theater and the Clink Prison but I was primarily out to get a good view of the Tower Bridge. With this taken care of exhaustion got the best of us so we started back home. All in all it was a fantastic time and so nice to finally get some sun. Lucky too as this morning I turned on the TV to watch the London Marathon and it was pouring rain.
