David just got home from work and we wandered down to the new Wolfson apartment we'll be moving into on September 1. No one is living in there now and the curtains were open, so we were able to peer in to our heart's content.
It is SO BEAUTIFUL!! Well, inside anyway. We will have the two rooms on the left side on the ground floor, with the green curtains (left is kitchen; right is bedroom).
The building ("the M Block") was built in 2004 and it looks it. Inside, anyway. The outside looks like the rest of Wolfson only newer, but the kitchen has white cupboards and a light wood counter, and a huge fridge with a separate freezer! Well, it's huge to us anyway. Our current mini-fridge is so tiny and we can barely use the freezer at all, since it is only about 6 inches high and is covered in frost. :) And they do have Costco here, so freezers are important.
Another wonderful surprise: there's a couch! Well, it's actually a loveseat, but still! That is really exciting. We watch movies now with two wooden chairs pushed together and it's kind of lame. It's college living and no big deal, but we'll really be doing well in the new place.
Best of all, there is no use of pea-green, mustard yellow, brown, or plaid anywhere. It actually looks like a modern place and is so much more cheerful than our current institutional wonder.
It will still feel like "home," too, since it's only across a small parking lot from where we live now. The second picture above is a view from the new place looking back towards our current place. Wilma is parked in the foreground and our second-floor place is behind the tree.
The downsides are that it is on the ground floor (though that's a upside for moving and groceries) and it is a little smaller than our current place. David's pretty concerned about where we'll put all our stuff (e.g. bikes and three computers), but I think it will all be fine and I'm as pleased as punch.
Yay! Only three more weeks in the 1960s.
